A recent report on the market for new hospitals has predicted that the value of healthcare construction contracts in the GCC is set to rise by about 25%, amounting to almost US$1.45bn, by the end of this year.
The UAE is building more than 20 hospitals over the next few years in order to cater to about 500,000 medical tourists expected to visit the country by 2020, thereby making sure that healthcare recruitment remains a top priority.
Further, signaling a positive sign for the healthcare industry, Abu Dhabi-based VPS Healthcare, which operates a number of healthcare facilities in the UAE and abroad, plans to recruit over 5,000 employees in the next three years for their upcoming projects with a large chunk of recruitment to be conducted for their new UAE ventures.
Dr. Shamsheer Vayalil, the Managing Director of VPS Healthcare has said that the recruitment will meet the growing healthcare demands of the country with a special emphasis on creating opportunities for Emirati talents.
Almost 70 to 80% of new staff as part of this recruitment drive is expected to be expats from all over the world while the rest will be UAE nationals. The company is planning to open 25 new healthcare facilities that will be up and running in three years. They are looking to hire almost 2,500 nurses, 600 doctors, 200 paramedics and 500 hospitality staff.
The planned projects include a new hospital in Al Ain, a medical center in Muscat and a new 300-bed medical city project planned for Mohammed bin Zayed City.
VPS Healthcare currently operates 12 hospitals and medical centers including Burjeel, Lifeline, LLH, Lifecare and Medeor 24×7. The hospitals range in size from 60 to 200 beds and the company has employed 7,500 staff in their healthcare facilities.
According to the DHA, statistics show that by 2025, there will be a need for 7,323 doctors and 8,510 nurses, which is expected to surge demand for professionals, keeping the sector bright for jobseekers over the next few years.
